Orion interceptors were fast, moderately-armed starships used by the Orion Syndicate during the 22nd century. Orion interceptors were still in service, though considerably upgraded, by the 24th century.

In the 2410s decade, this vessel was classified by the Khitomer Alliance as a tier 6 interceptor, a type of raider.

Technical data

The exterior design of this class's hull was hawk-like in appearance, incorporating swept wings positioned at the aft of the vessel, with a beak-like forward section.

The interceptor's armaments included at least one particle cannon mounted on the underside of the hull. The vessel was also equipped with a transporter.

By the 24th century, Orion interceptors had seven particle cannons and two photon torpedo launchers.

Encounters

Knowledge of this starship class was contained in the Vulcan database, but the class remained unknown to Starfleet until May of 2154, when two Orion interceptors attacked and raided the Enterprise (NX-01).

The two interceptors quickly caught and ambushed Enterprise in the Borderland as it was searching for an Augment-controlled Bird-of-Prey. Using their transporter, the Orions were able to abduct nine crewmen from Enterprise, including T'Pol and Jeffrey Pierce, before their escape.

Later, two interceptors again engaged Enterprise, following its rescue of the abducted crewmembers from Verex III. They caused moderate damage to Enterprise before the Augments arrived in their commandeered Bird-of-Prey and forced both of the interceptors to retreat.

In 2159, the IKS SuHDah went missing in the Borderland. 227 years later Federation probes found the IKS SuHDah abandoned in the Borderland, over two hundred years old. Starfleet sent the USS Intrepid-A to the Borderland to find out what happened to the crew of the IKS SuHDah. During the mission, Chloe Sullivan downloaded the crew logs, the Intrepid got attacked by nine Orion interceptors, B'Elanna got the weapons back online. Typhuss fired the disruptors at the Orion ship and destroyed it. The relays ruptured and the weapons went offline. Later Typhuss downloaded the visual playback log and sensor log from the Klingon computer. Later the USS Kingston lead 5 Daedalus-class battlecruisers against the Orions, they were able to drive them away. The last one attacked the Bird-of-prey, then the ship evaded the Orion ship until the away team was transported to the USS Kingston after the Bird of-prey lowered its shields. Then the Bird-of-prey was destroyed by the Orion ship. (Star Trek: Kingston episode: "The Discovery")

The People of the Open Sky were subjects of the Chain who rejected their society and formed a ragtag fleet. A portion of the fleet consisted of ships of the mid-22nd century Alpha and Beta Quadrant cultures. The fleet arriving at Deep Space 9 in November 2385 included at least one 2150s-era Orion interceptor. (DS9 novel: The Missing)

In 2270, Orion Syndicate leader Marikk Botar commanded a fleet of Orion interceptors in an attempt to take control of the world-ship Archernar IV and its powerful Omega-weapon. The fleet was destroyed by the energy wake left as Archernar IV departed for a different dimension. (TOS - Mission's End comic: "Issue 5")

Alternate timeline

In an alternate timeline beset by the temporal anomaly crisis, versions of the interceptor were pulled into the late 24th century. Around the year 2380, different timelines were interwoven, and the Orion Syndicate interceptor was deployed by various factions for space combat. The interceptor benefited from its advanced targeting systems and was equipped with deflector shields. It required 600 blueprints for construction.
