The Time Jumper, or navis temporis meaning ship of time in Ancient is a Puddle Jumper capable of time travel. It was built, or at least reconfigured, by a Lantean scientist named Janus, to make use of a device he invented and installed in the cargo hold. In the main timeline, this experimental, although entirely successful, technology was banned by the Lantean Council in order to prevent dangers associated with time travel.

History

Creation by Janus

The Time Jumper was created by Janus against the wishes of the Council of Atlantis. However, its existence was exposed when Elizabeth Weir arrived from the future in the Time Jumper. Meeting a woman from 10,000 years in the future prompted the Lantean Council's decision to ban further time travel research, thus changing the timeline such that Janus's prototype would no longer be left behind for the expedition to later find. Fortunately, Janus ensured that the expedition would also be saved from drowning, in the new timeline. When the Ancients left Atlantis, Janus secretly took his time travel research with him, intending to continue his work. (SGA: "Before I Sleep")

Study of Arkhan's World

Janus later built an identically-equipped Puddle Jumper, equally capable of time travel, on a planet in the Milky Way galaxy. This ship's time travel device was visually and functionally identical to the prototype, implying that in the new timeline Janus chose to disobey the Lantean Council's ban on time travel research. Janus used the Jumper to make a study on the planet, traveling at several points of his history, writing it in a stone temple and finally abandoning the Jumper nearby. (SG1: "It's Good to Be King")

Discovery and used by SG-1

SG-1, while investigating the Arkhan's World, discovered a single Puddle Jumper after finding monuments with Ancient writing. With his Ancient Technology Activation gene, Brigadier General Jack O'Neill was able to use the Puddle Jumper to destroy the Goa'uld Ares' Ha'tak to prevent an invasion of Arkhan's World. The Puddle Jumper was then taken to Earth for further study. (SG1: "It's Good to Be King")

Future use

In 2404, a team made up of Torren John Emmagan, Jinto, Lieutenant Jillian Draper and Dr. Saroj Chandrapura used the Time Jumper to travel back in time to the [[Battle of Starbase Atlantis|Battle of Atlantis to help Dr. Radek Zelenka and ensure the Atlantis Expedition's victory over the Wraith. (SGA: "A Blade of Atlantis")

The Time Jumper; 10,000 years back in the past

They traveled 10,000 years into the past, arriving at the final days of the Ancients' war with the Wraith. Orbiting Wraith ships besieging Atlantis mistook the newly arrived Time Jumper for a contemporary Lantean craft, and opened fire, causing the Jumper to crash land on Lantea. The alternate Sheppard and Zelenka were both killed in the crash, but the alternate Weir and the Jumper itself were rescued by the Ancients inhabiting Atlantis, including Janus. Meeting a woman from 10,000 years in the future prompted the Lantean Council's decision to ban further time travel research, thus changing the timeline such that Janus's prototype would no longer be left behind for the expedition to later find. Fortunately, Janus ensured that the expedition would also be saved from decompressing, in the new timeline. (SGA: "Before I Sleep")
