Certain teams have special duties within the Stargate Program. When Stargate Command was formed there were nine SG teams created, and at present there are at least twenty-five. The majority of the teams are Starfleet, with some Marines and civilians. A very few alien beings have also been allowed to join.

In 2379, an expedition was sent to the Pegasus galaxy and listed below are the special designation teams noted thus far in that expedition and their known members. Like SG teams, most members are Starfleet, along with Marines and civilian scientists. Atlantis teams are often seen using Puddle Jumpers to explore planets, as the Pegasus galaxy has many Spacegates. Many Atlantis teams are tasked with relief work throughout the Pegasus galaxy, providing food and medical supplies to civilizations on planets that had recently been culled.
